The food we eat nourishes us….the quality of that food determines the quality of the blood we make, the hormones we make, the sleep we get, the list goes on. And I have seen patients getting AMAZING results from making just some simple dietary changes that were not overwhelming and did not need micromanaging.
But what about how we nourish ourselves in other ways? What books are we reading? What tv shows are we watching? What are we listening to? Who are we surrounding yourself with? Who are we spending most time with? Are these even questions we have thought about before?
These choices are just as important as the food we eat. How we feed our minds and souls can have a truly profound impact on our health. You can eat the best food in the world, but if you’re watching crap on tv, spending most of your time with negative people, always putting yourself down….then you are not going to feel good. And you won’t know why, you probably won’t be able to put your finger on why you’re still feeling kind of tired, kind of unmotivated, kind of unhappy.
Now these are lessons I am learning myself and I certainly see it in clinic and in the wider community. If you are not ‘feeding’ your mind EVERY DAY with readings that deepen your knowledge (either of yourself, your passions, your spirituality) or listening to podcasts (or whatever) that inspires you, that raises excitement in you…..then how can you possibly truly and fully feel better?
We are not machines that just need to right oil to run properly. We NEED so much more than just the ‘right food’ to live a life that is ABUNDANT and that fills us with VITALITY.
Instead of spending an hour scrolling through Facebook or Instagram, could you instead pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read and read 10 pages instead?
Instead of listening to your work colleague bitch about the state of the country on your lunch break (again!), could you just excuse yourself and go walk in the park and listen to a podcast by Caroline Myss, Brene Brown or Simon Sinek (or whomever challenges YOUR status quo!)?
Instead of beating yourself up for not doing all the things you have been meaning to do, could you sit somewhere quiet and just breath? Deep, conscious belly breathing that connect you back to the life in you and running through you.
These are small choices that can have a profound effect on your life. And often they are choices that are not talked about or even considered. How you feed your mind and soul, how you allow your energetic field to be feed, WILL either have a positive or negative impact. This impact may be subtle, but compounded over time, you will feel the results.
