At this time of year setting goals and resolutions for the year are often the hot topic of discussion at coffee break. We come in to a new year full of determination that this is the year that it is going to happen.

“I’m going to lose weight, I’m going to eat healthier, I’m going to go to the gym every day, I’m going to get that promotion this year!”

Any of this sound familiar? When we say these goals to ourselves in late December/early January, we mean it. We can feel the positivity that this year will be different; this year something will magically make it easier for this promise to ourselves to come true.

But by the second week in January, we’re back at work, back to the same routine. The payback from over-indulging over the Christmas season is literally weighing us down. Any hope that we felt that things were going to be different are slowly fading and the thoughts of “next year, I’ll start again next year” start whispering in your ear!

But what if this is the year? What if this year you’ve had enough of the excuses, of feeling under par, of feeling like you’re not living at your best? What if there is a way to keep your goals and resolutions even if you have already broken them?

Just because you have gone off track, doesn’t mean you can’t start over? You don’t have to let small failures snowball into another year of not reaching for your dreams.

Getting clear on what your goals are is the first step. Creating goals that are attainable is the next! An example may be, you’ve decided to start going to the gym this year and so have signed up for a marathon in mid-February. You’ve never run before, you don’t even own a pair of runners yet! Is there a possibility that you could actually run the marathon that is on in about 6 weeks from now?? Well, of course it’s possible…anything is possible! But, realistically you have set yourself up with fail, set yourself up beat yourself up emotionally because this is another thing to add to the list of things not accomplished.

The time constraints, the level of fitness and preparation needed to run a marathon were not attainable for the goal you had set. Setting the goal to start going to the gym is a really great goal, deciding this year you want to get fit and feel healthy….fantastic goal. Taking small, incremental, manageable steps to get there is how you make it happen. You decide to run your first 5km run in April….totally attainable. The risk of failure is at a minimum!

I want this year to be the year to be your year! So, I am doing a talk on Sunday January 14th in Urban Health, Ranelagh at 2.30pm.

I will help you decide what ‘being well’ means for you. From this we will create manageable, attainable goals or resolutions for 2018. We will discover 3 daily habits or rituals that you can implement to ensure a positive outcome. We will also make sure you have steps to take to re-align you with your goals, just in case things get a little shaky!!

I would love to see you there. Please click on the link below to get your ticket.
