Anxiety is something we have all felt at some stage or another. We have all been through exams, interviews, social events, dates, competitions that have raised our anxiety levels. We might get a little sweaty, maybe not have a great sleep the night before or our appitite was a little surpressed. And often with this kind of anxiety, there is a current of excitement running through it. Once the event has started or finished, we go back to feeling ‘normal’ and forget that we were ever nervous and anxious about it.
But there are people, so many people who feel deep anxiety every day. It may be caused by money worries and difficulties, illness (either in their families or in themselves), problems at work, relationship difficulties etc or the reasons may not be known….everything on the outside seems fine, but yet there is a grip on the inside that just won’t go away.
This ongoing, chronic anxiety can be crippling. Your whole life can be affected by it. Going out, going to work, even just just getting out of bed can seem like climbing a mountain. Body sensations can be overwhelming. You might be sweaty or cold, you cannot remember what a good night’s sleep is like, because your mind just won’t stop thinking about tomorrow. Or you digestion is shot, and you often have to run to the toilet and/or can’t eat because you feel nauseous so much. Your muscles can be so tight, they ache or they feel like there is no life in them at all. Maybe your head hurts most of time and your jaw is constantly tight.
Living with anxiety is a struggle, and often the people who struggle with it most are people who are really high achievers. They have high-responsibilty careers that seems to pile on extra pressure to feel anxious. They push themselves almost to breaking point, somehow managing to run on adrenaline and caffeine. And then, there are people who so desire to be ‘high acheivers’, who want so much to be and feel successful in their lives, but just cannot seem to find the courage to take the steps to make this happen.
The pressures of modern society that we are made to believe are the most important are slowly crushing so many of us. The results of chronic anxiety takes a massive toll on our bodies. Every body system is affected, from our neuroendocrine (nervous/hormonal) to digestive to cardiovasular to reproductive systems. Depending on your own constitution, one is most likely going to be impacted the most, but all are weakened by chronic anxiety. This is not meant to be scary, it is simply a fact of nature. Eventually burn out and adrenal fatigue will bereached and our bodies just cannot cope anymore.
But, what if I told you there is a way out of this? What is I told you there is a way to fully and properly calm your nervous system again to that your other body systems finally start to re-regulate themselves?
Let me tell you, there is!
There is so much information out there and so much advice, that knowing where to start often means you won’t start. The first and most importnat thing you can do BREATH.
Breath out fully, let the inhale come in naturally to fill your lungs and then breath out again.
Inhale, exhale……let go!
Just for 10 breaths, do this! Let go, let go of the struggle. Allow yourself these 10 breaths. No matter the situation or circumstance, remember to bring your awareness and attention back to your breath. This allows your nervous system to be a little calmer, it slows your thinking (in a good way), it reminds you of where you are….you are HERE!
It shows you the POWER you hold within you. That lifeforce that is flowing through your veins can create massive change.
I work with this power in my clinic. I use acupuncture (to assist the nervous system to modulate your body systems, creating endorphins to naturally and effectively calm your mind and body. I also meditations and affirmations to help you regain control of your mind and circumstances.
So, if you are ready (or not ready, but know you need to try something) then please get in touch….. you do not need to live in silence and fear anymore. There is a way out………
